August Pullman, or Auggie, was born with various physical deformities and because of that, had a multitude of surgeries at a very young age. However, August’s struggles do not end there.  August is going to school for the first time in his life. Wonder by R.J Palacio, touches concepts that all of us have experienced in our lives. Whether it be in school, the workplace, out on the street, or even in our homes, we have all faced the emotional stress and pressure of interacting with other people. For some people it comes easy, and others, like August, have a tough time adjusting. But come to find out, it is the other people around that have more to adjust as well, not just the individual. Depending on these soft spots, this book might hit you emotionally, bringing you back to those times or- you may realize- the point of life that you are now. Palacio’s writing scheme that adapts to fit for different characters helps understand and empathize with different perspectives.      I recommend this book for everybody, especially for students going into middle school and adults. It is not just an easy read, but a pleasant one. The concepts are not vocalized abstractly and they are not blatant either. This book is one that everyone will be able to connect to and benefit from. Wonder will leave you thinking and may change how you view and interact with other people.
